Asics brings back a mid 2000s distance runner that's been updated for the daily grind on the UB5-S GEL-Nimbus 9. The UB5-S GEL-Nimbus 9 was created by the Kiko Kostadinov Studio. They were inspired to update the heritage trainer's technical details with a series of archived trail shoe features. Elements from the GEL-TRAIL ATTACK shoe's line detailing are met with lace-like mesh underlays on the upper. Meanwhile, the sneaker's coloration references the look of galaxy matter that coincides with the design's futuristic influences, as utility features like the elongated tongue loops add to the layered mesh and synthetic leather upper. In this era of performance footwear, Asics shifted towards a more segmented midsole design, though the GEL technology inserts remain in the heel and forefoot to create better cushioning and more stable step. This includes at least 20% recycled materials in its construction.
