Will Smith and Jordan Brand are celebrating the superstar's 50th birthday on September 25th with a new special edition of an iconic Air Jordan model that references Smith's West Philly roots and his classic '90s sitcom on the Air Jordan 5 Retro NRG "Fresh Prince". As one of Nike's earliest accounts, our parent company City Blue was the go-to spot for Will and Jazzy Jeff back in the day, and they were frequent shoppers at the former City Blue location that now houses Lapstone & Hammer. We are honored to be bringing his shoe back home to 1106 Chestnut St. These shoes will be available Tuesday, September 25th @ 10:00am exclusively in-store on a first come, first serve basis. There will be no email order for this release.
Based on the Air Jordan 5 "Grape" that Smith famously rocked on "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air", the new "Fresh Prince" model uses the same color scheme of a white leather base with Grape Ice, New Emerald and black accents. What sets the "Fresh Prince" edition apart is its laceless construction, mimicking the irrepressible way the Fresh Prince wore them on the show. Only now the tongue is fixed to the upper, creating a more stable slip-on fit, and the eyelets have all been filled in as well. An embossed "West Philadelphia" call out that appears in the leather just below the 3M reflective tongue, and a yellow and pink-striped insole featuring "Air Jordan" branding in the style of the show's logo are the shoe's other signature details. The instantly recognizable Jordan 5 "sharktooth" midsole covered with an icy blue outsole provides the base, and embroidered Nike Air branding on each heel finishes off the design with an OG touch.
Accompanying the release of the Air Jordan 5 "Fresh Prince" will be a special tee shirt that shows the Prince maxin' and relaxin' in his "Grape" 5's. The white crew neck shirt features a six-color illustrated graphic on the front, "Fresh Prince"-style Air Jordan logo print on the back and a nylon Jumpman tag on the hem.
The Air Jordan 5 Retro NRG "Fresh Prince" collection will be available on Tuesday, September 25th @ 10:00am exclusively in-store at 1106 Chestnut St., Philadelphia location. It will be first come, first served, so don't be late!
