Lapstone & Hammer is thrilled to present our latest project with ASICS, releasing on Saturday, May 2: LAPSTONE for ASICS GEL-KAYANO 12.1 "The Spark". The Spark is the moment of ignition, the contagious driving force that sets everything in motion. It is the beginning, the awakening, the seed of action.
The GEL-KAYANO 12.1 was an obvious choice to interpret our vision of The Spark, as the model continues to inspire and evolve through KITH's redesign last year of the original GEL-KAYANO 12 from 2006. Our version carries that creative spark forward with updated premium materials, a brand new diamond knit pattern on the upper and subtle Spark details throughout, as well as an apparel capsule that releases alongside it.
It only takes one spark to start a fire. Just like it only takes one word to change a mind, one idea to change the world, or one courageous act to start a revolution. However, the spark is delicate; it needs to be protected and developed before it can be shared. Without a wind to carry it or fuel to feed it, the spark will simply die. But when it is nurtured and cultivated, the spark can grow and spread to ignite an inferno inside everyone who glimpses its light. The spark carries the message; watch and listen as it inspires and becomes the flame.
"The Spark" refashions the GEL-KAYANO 12.1 with an open diamond knit mesh upper overlaid with flint-like metallic silver and cream premium pebbled leather panels. The formstripes are transformed with black hairy suede on the lateral side, and cream premium suede on the medial, while 100% cotton duck canvas construction makes the tongue stand out. Red accents on the GEL midsole and ASICS heel logo nod toward a flame and spark, while the red-dipped lace tips represent match heads. Each pair comes with a custom-printed box of matches.
The apparel capsule features a heathered oatmeal hoodie and sweatpant set with a water-based print of our Lapstone Spark graphic, black tee featuring matchbox and Spark graphics, and a cream tee with Spark and Collective Consciousness graphics. All pieces are 100% cotton and made in the USA.
