In 1898 the Saucony shoe manufacturing company began its operations along the banks of the Saucony river, 75 miles away from where Lapstone & Hammer was founded in Philadelphia. Now these two brands with Pennsylvania roots have teamed up for the first time to create the Lapstone & Hammer + Saucony "Two Rivers" Courageous Moc. This special project, which is inspired by the origins of Saucony’s name (derived from the Native American Lenape word "saconk", which translates to "where two rivers run together"), seeks to connect Lapstone and Saucony like two rivers running together to form a more dynamic force.
For the ‘Two Rivers” capsule, releasing on March 28th, Lapstone has transformed one of Saucony’s heritage running silhouettes, the Courageous, into a brand new model: the Courageous Moc. The addition of a handmade whip-stitched moc toe is the centerpiece of the design, giving this shoe the distinction of being the first hand-stitched Saucony in decades.
That level of personal care and attention to detail extends through the rest of the model’s construction, which includes a mix of premium silkee and mammoth suedes, and goat and Horween leathers that make up the upper; a calfskin leather lining; a sherpa-lined tongue; a cork and EVA co-molded midsole and a sharktooth ripple gum rubber outsole. Additional details include Lapstone & Hammer branding on the woven tongue label and insole, while each pair comes with two lace options – rawhide leather and tonal flat waxed cotton – as well as both tonal and accent colored lace toggles.
The Courageous Moc "Two Rivers" will release on Saturday, March 28th in two colorways: Bone White and Black Sand. Bone White features a light colored suede upper with blue and coral accents, and will only be available at Lapstone & Hammer. Black Sand is made up of a dark suede upper with purple and olive accents, and will receive a wider release at select global retailers on April 4th.
In addition to the shoes, the "Two Rivers" capsule will also feature a special in-house made in Philadelphia apparel collection. The sportswear-focused range consists of a sherpa hoodie and short set in oatmeal and graphite, each featuring a cognac leather patch embossed with a Lapstone logo; a hoodie and cargo pant that are 100% cotton French terry, and have each been "marble-dyed" by hand in olive and indigo and feature an embroidered Lapstone logo; and a 100% cotton, garment-dyed tee in black and bone, emblazoned with "Two Rivers" and "Run Together" prints on the front and back. All of these pieces were made right here in Philadelphia, and the "marble-dyed" hoodie and pants were hand dyed at our in-house facility.
