As the eyes of sports fans everywhere turn towards North America for the world's premier soccer tournament, Lapstone & Hammer is thrilled to partner with the U.S. Men's National Team to celebrate Philadelphia's host city status with the LAPSTONE x USMNT collection. This collection for the U.S. Men’s National team features a range of apparel inspired by vintage Americana & classic patchwork pieces that evoke a sense of nostalgia and patriotism while still inhabiting a modern streetwear aesthetic. Releasing in-store and online on Sunday, June 7th, the project is just the first in a packed month of Lapstone's soccer-related events.
The United States Soccer Federation and the U.S. Men’s National Team are partnering with one retailer in each city that is hosting Cup games to create a soccer-focused capsule that celebrates the quadrennial event while connecting to the cultural identity of the city. Lapstone & Hammer was honored to be chosen to represent Philadelphia for this special collective endeavor to celebrate and uplift the beautiful game, and help attract new fans in the luxury streetwear space to the global phenomenon that is soccer.
The LAPSTONE X USMNT collection features a dynamic range of cut-and-sew silhouettes, including a full zip hoodie, tee, polo, shorts, socks and hats. Many of the graphics are inspired by old hand painted signage and vintage advertising graphics that celebrate American heritage and craftsmanship, but are also placed in context and executed with today's youth and fashion sensibilities at the forefront. This collection is meant to play off the old and the new, the vintage and the modern, told through the streetwear lens of Philly fashion. One of our goals is help people see the beauty of this game as they gain a new appreciation for soccer while using modern fashion, streetwear and Philadelphia culture as an entry point into global football culture.

The design process started with a deep dive into vintage Americana pieces, as we wanted to bring the Americana aesthetic into the game of soccer in the effort to connect to the roots of American culture. We also did a significant exploration of vintage and classic soccer kits from around the world as well as digging into previous designs for the U.S. teams. We ended up combining classic silhouettes like pique polo shirts, ringer tees and full-zip hoodies with a more contemporary allover graphic motif utilizing screen prints, gel transfers, embroidery and appliqués for a vintage-meets-modern soccer aesthetic.
