THE DANNY RUMPH CLASSIC WELCOMES LAPSTONE AS AN OFFICIAL SPONSOR FOR THEIR 20TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION

Lapstone & Hammer is proud to be included as an official sponsor of this year's Danny Rumph Classic, Philadelphia's premier cause-driven basketball tournament. For this year's 20th anniversary edition, the tournament is going bigger than ever with a move to Drexel University's Daskalakis Athletic Center running from Thursday, August 7, 2025 to Monday, August 11, 2025, and we could not be more excited to be a part of the action!

Lapstone's contributions to the event this year will include providing gift bags to participants in Saturday's youth clinic, as well as sponsoring the "Lapstone Lounge" in the Hazem Suite, featuring complimentary refreshments and nightly sneaker giveaways. Stop by for a drink and a chance to win some kicks!

Founded in 2005 in the wake of the tragic passing of local hoops star Danny Rumph from Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM),an undiagnosed heart condition, the Daniel E. Rumph II Foundation hosts the tournament each year as a way to raise money for youth heart screenings and to place defibrillators in gyms across the state. Started by Danny's mother Viola Owens along with his uncle Marcus Owens, and friends Sharif Hanford and Mike Morak after Danny collapsed on-court and could not be revived, they resolved to raise awareness of HCM and fund lifesaving heart screenings and defibrillator access as a way to "Save the next bright star."

Starting out as a small event to honor Danny's memory and help prevent future tragedies, The Classic has grown to one of the east coast’s most renowned pro-am summer tournaments featuring NBA stars like Tyrese Maxey, Jayson Tatum, Jalen Brunson, James Harden, P.J. Tucker, Lou Williams and more. NBA pros and Philadelphia natives Marcus and Markieff Morris' foundation, FOE (Family Over Everything), has sponsored a team for over ten years and won the tourney five times.

"As we mark the 20th year of the Danny Rumph Classic and the 20th anniversary of Danny's passing, we reflect on two decades of community, camaraderie, and Philly hoops", said Mike Morak, Director of Events. "There's nothing more meaningful than coming together with friends and family to keep Danny's memory alive. This event has always been about more than basketball; it's about honoring Danny's legacy and inspiring the next generation of Philly hoopers, both on and off the court."
