The holiday season is here again, which means it's time for Lapstone & Hammer's annual Holiday Charity Drive! This year we will be partnering with some amazing organizations to serve some of the Philadelphia community's most vulnerable populations and bring holiday to children who are in need of a smile. To help get things started we will be doing a special Air Jordan 11 "Cherry" activation to really energize this giving initiative (see below for more information).
Beginning on December 6th, our shop will be accepting donations to benefit two very worthy causes: a Toy Drive benefiting the Ronald McDonald House Charities and the Courtyard Mentor Network, will help make Christmas Day a bit brighter for children in the community as well as seriously ill children receiving treatment at area hospitals; and a Winter Clothing Drive in partnership with CB Community Schools and the Delaware Center For Justice that will provide children in foster care and people recently discharged from the prison system with warm clothes during the cold weather season.
Starting today we will be accepting the following donations at our 1106 Chestnut St. location in Philadelphia:
- Brand new toys, books and gift cards. All donated toys or items must be new and in their original packaging. Donations should not be gift wrapped, as everything needs to be checked for safety reasons. Please bring new toys only, as any used toys will not be accepted.
- New or lightly used winter clothing, including coats, hoodies, sweaters, hats, scarves, gloves & mittens and hand warmers.
Here is a little background about the organizations we are working with, click the links to donate and support these amazing organizations:
Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of the Philadelphia Region supports families of seriously ill children by providing temporary lodging, transportation, meals, and social services to families who travel to Philadelphia for pediatric care. The Philadelphia Ronald McDonald house was founded in 1974, and was the very first one. Now there are over 365 houses all over the world!
The Courtyard Mentor Network is a Courtyard Residents Council Program, in partnership with the Michaels Organization, Better Tomorrows, the Queen Village Neighbors Association and the KB Foundation (KB), that helps adolescent males in Philadelphia develop long-term goals and provides them the necessary support to achieve them. They accomplish this by introducing the boys to various industries and connecting them with mentors who can guide them along their chosen career path.
Recognizing a dire need to create a healing-centered high school for young people in the foster care and juvenile justice systems, C.B. Community Schools launched its first school in 2015. Too many young people in the child welfare system have been pushed out and sent away when what they need is a loving, consistent community. They are the only high school in the nation for young people in the child welfare system.
The Delaware Center for Justice carries on its tradition of strong, non-partisan policy advocacy that’s been in their DNA for over a century. In addition to their focus on reforming the justice system, they also provide a wealth of services for men and women who are currently incarcerated, those who have been recently discharged, and services for victims of crime as well.
We would like to thank the Talk To Me Nice podcast, Marvin Bing & Friends, Mercedes Watson and Justin Fishman for all of their help and support in bringing this year's Holiday Charity Drive to life.
AIR JORDAN 11 "CHERRY" CHARITY ACTIVATION
To kick off our Holiday Charity Drive we will be harnessing the hype of this weekend's Air Jordan 11 "Cherry" release by requiring a toy or winter clothes donation for entry into our raffle.
Starting on Tuesday, December 6th at 10:00am and ending on Friday, December 9th at 5:00pm, you can bring a brand new toy, gift card, or new or lightly used winter clothing to our shop on 1106 Chestnut St. in Philadelphia for donation and entry into our Air Jordan 11 "Cherry" raffle.
The Air Jordan 11 "Cherry" raffle is only open to those who donate. If you do not donate to the Charity Drive, you are not eligible to enter the raffle.
Winners will be contacted by email later on Friday, December 9th, and can pick up their pair on December 10th and 11th during store hours.
Let's Harness the Hype to affect real change in our community, and bring some holiday joy to people who really need it!
