LAPSTONE & HAMMER DIP DYE SPRING 2020: LOOKBOOK
This Saturday, February 22nd, Lapstone & Hammer will introduce the world to our very first cut-and-sew collection, DIP DYE SPRING 2020. While we have released many of our projects in the past, this is the first collection of apparel that has been completely designed and produced by us - and we could not be more proud of the results.
DIP DYE SPRING 2020 combines elements of sportswear and workwear, featuring hoodies, sweatpants, tees and caps alongside cargo pants and a button front chore coat, that have all been garment-dyed by hand at our on-premises dye house right here in Philadelphia. Created by Lapstone founder Brian Nadav and lead designer James Griffin, the collection continues our in-house dye program, expanding upon the techniques we explored in previous releases, while further elevating Lapstone & Hammer as not just a retailer of premium menswear, but a maker of it as well.

The sportswear facet of the collection is anchored by a sweatsuit made from 20oz., 100% cotton French terry, and garment-dyed in three colors: indigo, olive and coral. The hoodie has a three panel hood, kangaroo pocket, ribbed cuffs and hem, and cover stitched seams for extra reinforcement. Lapstone is tonally embroidered across the chest while a large, slightly raised screen print of the Lapstone Medallion hits the back. The sweatpants, in a departure from traditional construction, feature an open hem instead of a ribbed cuff producing a more flowing and stackable look. They are finished off with an elastic ribbed waistband with a drawstring, two side pockets and one back pocket, and tonal LH embroidery on the left hip.
The workwear portion consists of a chore coat and cargo pants made from 6.5oz., 100% cotton ripstop material and garment-dyed in three colors: moss, sand and slate. The coat has faux tortoise buttons on the front placket and cuffs, three exterior patch pockets, one interior chest pocket, fold down collar, locker loop on the inside neck and a Lapstone & Hammer woven label on the chest pocket. The pants also have faux tortoise buttons on the closure (with a zip fly) and pleated cargo pockets, drawstring cuffs, side and back pockets, and a Lapstone & Hammer woven label on the left cargo pocket.
The collection also includes a 100% cotton, garment-dyed tee with a tonal Lapstone print on the chest in indigo, olive and coral; and two 100% cotton, 6 panel unstructured "Dad" hats - one with an embroidered Lapstone Medallion on the front and one with Lapstone & Hammer embroidery on the front, also in indigo, olive and coral.
The garments in this collection were all made in Philadelphia on 100% cotton, prepared-for-dye (PFD) fabrics cut from our own original patterns. Every piece was garment-dyed by hand at our facility in Philadelphia, and then finished off with a mineral wash.
This special hand-dye process results in variations of shading and color, which are intentional and add to the garments' unique characteristics. All of the colors in this collection are drawn from things in the natural world, where they are continually reacting to the elements and changing their appearance. DIP DYE 2020 mimics that process, as the color of the garments will continue to fade and break down over time with continued wear and washing, giving the clothes an evolving vintage feel.
Lapstone & Hammer DIP DYE SPRING 2020 will be available on Saturday, February 22nd @ 10:00am EST in-store and 12:00pm EST online at lapstoneandhammer.com.
