LAPSTONE INITIATIVE
Lapstone & Hammer has always been committed to using our platform as a voice to promote positive change in our community. Now more than ever we need to be focused, organized and determined to fight for those who are being oppressed and marginalized by an unjust system. With that in mind, from June 6th through June 12th we are pledging to donate 50% of the proceeds from all of our sales to be split evenly among the following organizations: Campaign Zero and the ACLU. Read below for more information and to donate directly to each organization.
Campaign ZERO was developed with contributions from activists, protesters and researchers across the nation. Their #8CantWait initiative highlights 8 policies cities can enact that could reduce police killings by as much as 72%. Funds donated to Campaign ZERO support the analysis of policing practices across the country, research to identify effective solutions to end police violence, technical assistance to organizers leading police accountability campaigns and the development of model legislation and advocacy to end police violence nationwide.
The American Civil Liberties Union was founded in 1920 and is our nation's guardian of liberty. The ACLU works in the courts, legislatures and communities to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to all people in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States. They have participated in more Supreme Court cases than any other private organization.
We know that this is only a drop in the bucket, and that there are many more organizations that also need help to fight the good fight, but this is only the beginning. We are in this for the long haul, there isn't going to be a first round knockout in the fight against systemic racism. It's going to take persistent effort from all of us, not just marching and protesting, not just contributing to organizations like these, but taking a long hard look at our own behaviors and attitudes that have contributed to keeping these systems in place. It's not going to be easy, but nothing worthwhile ever is. Thank you for joining with us to work for a better, safer and more equitable future.
